Pontefract Colliries 2 -3 Shaw Lane AFC
Shaw Lane AFC's second successive win on the road sees us beat Pontefract 2-3
A second successive win on the road for Shaw Lane , saw the Ducks continue their build up to Saturday 12th August's Evo-Stik Northern Premier opener away at Sutton Coldfield Town
From the opening exchanges we knew this was going to be a hard game by the condition of the pitch and by Pontefract game plan which was to stop us playing by any means necessary and to go in hard, but that didn't stop the Ducks taking the lead when a lobbed through ball caught the Pontefract defence off guard and found one of our trialists in a lot of space and had time to put in back of the net 0-1. 4 minutes later Pontefract launched a ball forward which wasn't dealt with by the Shaw lane defence and the on rushing Christopher Jackson capitalised on the mistake and finished well 1-1. Shortly after Eli Hey made it 2-1 to Pontefract again by sloppy defending from the Shaw Lane back 4 and slotted it past Jon Stewart.
After a feisty 1st half Craig Elliott made some changes at half time and put a different side out. it seemed to make a lot of difference with the constant running of Godwin Abadaki. Half way through the second half Pontefract was reduced to 10 men for violent conduct. On 75 minutes Shaw Lane equalised, from a corner from the right was headed away by Pontefract and was picked up by Matty Davies who rifled his shot into the net from 25 yards. The win was wrapped up by another trialists who beat his man out on the right and crossed it in and managed to find its way into the far left corner 2-3.
However the game ended on a bad note as Matty Davies broke his leg due to a bad tackle by a Pontefract defender. All associated with Shaw Lane AFC wish him a speedy recovery.
