Shaw Lane 3, Frickley Athletic 1.
Chib Chilaka grabs a hat-trick to take the Ducks to the final.
Shaw Lane progressed to the final of this season's Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Challenge Cup after beating Frickley Athletic by three goals to one.
The winners of the trophy last season were off to a flying start when good work by Damian Reeves in the area created confusion for goalkeeper Paul Stancliffe and his defenders. Eventually the ball fell to Chib Chilaka on the edge of the area and the striker put the ball away for a first minute goal.
It was almost two on ten minutes when Chilaka headed over following a Gavin Rothery cross, which took a slight deflection on the way into the box.
Chilaka did make it 2-0 just five minutes later. Once again the striker pounced when the ball fell kindly to him on the edge of the area. Deja Vu for the Frickley players as the cup tie started to slip away from them even at this early stage of the game.
No one had scored a hat-trick for the Ducks this season, until Chilaka picked up the match ball on 23 minutes. The striker collected the ball close to the edge of the area, beat three Frickley players to work his way into the area, and fired the ball past Stancliffe into the far corner for his third.
From then on it was a case of soaking up any pressure Frickley put on the home side, but efforts on goal were few and far between. Myles Wright collected everything the visitors had to offer.
On 49 minutes Godwin Abadaki went in for a challenge, but came off worse and was replaced by Matty Davies a couple of minutes later. There was also a run out for midfielder Adam Knight and striker Paul Clayton which allowed Shaw Lane to hold the ball further up the field in the later stages of the game.
Former Shaw Lane striker Gavin Allott had to have the final say on the matters as he worked tirelessly in the box to eventually put on in the net for Frickley Athletic. It was, however, the last action of the game as the referee blew the final whistle.
Shaw Lane progress to the final at Bramall Lane where they will try to retain the trophy in a game against fellow Barnsley outfit Penistone Church FC. The final will be played on Tuesday 22nd May with a 7:30pm kick-off.
