Shaw Lane 1, Marine 3
It was a fourth successive 3-1 result for Shaw Lane, however this time they were on the receiving end of conceding three times.
The game started competitively with Shaw Lane having the best of possession in the early stages and forcing a couple of corners, but on nine minutes a Luis Suarez moment was missed by the referee.
After a 50/50 challenge between Paul Clayton and Billy Smart the latter reacted with the referee talking next to Clayton by biting the striker on the shoulder. Clayton reacted to the bite but with the shirt protecting his skin the referee decided not to take any action.
On the quarter hour mark Alex Byrne's fourth delivery from a corner was played on by defender Kelvin Lugsden to the path of Clayton, who turned it into the net for the opening goal.
It didn't take the visitors long though to persude the referee to give them a free kick on the left side of the pitch. The delivery into the box fell to Adam Hughes who hit the ball on the volley perfectly for the equaliser on 22 minutes.
Lively Olly Dyson then came close on 25 minutes before the home side found themselves behind after yet another soft free kick was awarded on 32 minutes. A wicked deflection from a shot by Thomas Field left Ed Wilczynski scrambling to no avail.
The Ducks almost hit straight back with Dyson proving elusive in the penalty area. His eventual pass found Spencer Harris whose attempt at goal was denied only by the foot of the post - Gavin Rothery on the follow-up saw his effort saved by Martin Fearon.
Marine came close to extending the lead but were denied by Wilczynki; first with a one on one and then a spectacular diving effort on the hour mark. The Marine pressure did finally pay off as their third came following a corner. The ball was only partially cleared and the return cross from the right was headed in at the back post by Liam Tongue.
Shaw Lane did all they could on the now wet and muddy pitch and substitute Kieran Lugsden shot wide on 82 minutes before Fearon made a reaction save from a Harris volley on 87 minutes.
