Stourbridge 1, Shaw Lane AFC 1
Ducks Take a Point
Shaw Lane were fortunate to take a point away from the War Memorial Athletic Ground after a good showing by the home side.
It started brightly for The Ducks with Alex Byrne taking advantage of space down the right hand side.
Byrne's first effort after two minutes saw the first save of the afternoon by debutante keeper Harry Beasley. The loanee from Wolves parrying the fierce shot away from goal.
The opening goal came just two minutes later from 20 yards as Byrne's second effort was deflected in by Stuart Pierpoint at the far corner.
Stourbridge then adapted to the pitch which was cutting up and getting damper by the minute and put serious pressure on the visitors goal.
pulling off some good saves and commanding his area well.
Jake Skelton picked up the only booking of the first half for poor tackle on 29 minutes.
The second half started in bizarre fashion as the equaliser came two minutes after the re-start.
A shot Luke Benbow, in a similar position to the opener, somehow eluded Skelton and Wilczynski and found its way into the net.
Shaw Lane had other chances to win the game with Gavin Rothery, starting his first match since mid-August, forcing a save from Beasley.
Another effort was blocked on the line following a corner but the point was to be enough after Skelton received his second yellow of the game.
A late tackle as Stourbridge broke forward was only ever going to end with one result.
Another big save by Wilczynski denied the hosts from getting all three points as the ten men stood strong.
The point in the West Midlands keeps Shaw Lane joint second with Grantham and The Ducks hope to take all three next time around when they travel to Coalville Town on Tuesday.
