Shaw Lane 0 Grantham Town 2.

The Ducks fell to only their second home defeat of the season as they run out of steam against the Gingerbreads.

It was another crushing blow in what has proved to be a fruitless week for Shaw Lane since returning to action because of the weather.

Having already lost at Witton and Workington in the previous two games manager Paul Quinn was hoping for a response as they played on home soil for the first time in almost a month.

Spencer Harris returned to the side having not played since February 24th, as did Kiaran Lugsden who missed the trip to Workington on Tuesday. Paul Clayton was unavailable due to work and new signing Tyler Williams was not included in the matchday squad.

The game started brightly and The Ducks showed attacking promise with Chib Chilaka, Damian Reeves and Alex Byrne leading the line.

On five minutes Byrne created the first chance of the night and it almost resulted in a goal. His efforts down the left goal line found Damian Reeves in front of goal, but his blocked effort fell to Byrne who put the ball in the net - sadly though the offside flag went up against Byrne.

Reeves then had another shot palmed away by Kieran Preston in the Grantham goal on 23 minutes as the game became an even affair.

Dominic Brown-Hill, making his home debut, was shown the first yellow card of the game two minutes later, but when the second yellow card of the game fell to Kelvin Lugsden on 47 minutes it spelled trouble for the home side.

A free-kick 20 yards out by Curtis Burrows was fired over Ed Wilczynski's head and into the net for the opening goal. The power of the free-kick catching the keeper out.

The heavy schedule started to take its toll on Shaw Lane after and tiredness became an issue, not surprising after the eight and half hour round trip which ended for some at 4am on Wednesday.

Burrows added a second on 69 minutes with a super effort from distance which Wilczynski will feel he should have done better with. Despite getting a hand to the ball, another powerful effort was too much for the keeper and the game went to Grantham.

Quinn and the players will be disappointed with the last three results and will be hoping to better when they host Nantwich Town on Saturday.

Full Time: Shaw Lane 0, Grantham Town 2.
