Shaw Lane 2 Stalybridge Celtic 0
The Ducks picked up three valuable points in their ‘home’ game against Stalybridge Celtic and the ‘visitors’ home of Bower Fold.
Shaw Lane were on the front foot straight from kick-off when Kieran Lugsden had a half chance to score following a Jake Picton throw into the box on five minutes.
A minute later a mistake by defender Jack Taylor allowed Damian Reeves to pounce and make a run into the box, however a heavy touch whilst one on one allowed George Sykes-Kenworthy to gather the ball safely.
Pressure ensued and on twelve minutes Spencer Harris forced Sykes-Kenworthy to parry the ball away from goal and keep the Stalybridge Celtic defence on their toes.
The breakthrough came on 18 minutes when Olly Dyson won the ball on the edge of the area. The young talent used his skill to round the keeper and put the ball into the net from a tight angle.
Things went from bad to worse for Stalybridge Celtic as experienced defender Ross Killock limped from the field on 20 minutes to be replaced by Brice Pouamoun.
Harris and Alex Byrne both had efforts before the end of the half with the former’s shot blocked following a deep cross by Picton.
The second goal came just six minutes after the restart when a Bryne free-kick to the back post found Reeves unmarked in front of goal.
Reeves made no mistake putting the ball over the line, despite the best efforts of Sykes-Kenworthy , to net his 20th goal of the season in all competitions.
It was almost three on 56 minutes when a Byrne corner was headed onto the crossbar by a Stalybridge defender at the front post.
Shaw Lane then did enough to see the game out without creating too many more chances and collected their first clean sheet in ten games.
